Getting started

Octolift documentation

Octolift takes a few minutes to set up. There is nothing to install in your theme: the app reads your products through Shopify and shows you, inside the Shopify admin, how AI shopping assistants see them and what to change.

Before you start
  • A Shopify store with at least one active product.
  • An online store that is not password protected. The AI catalog checks look for your products the way an assistant would, and a hidden storefront has nothing to find.
  • Permission to install apps on the store (the store owner, or staff with that permission).

1 Install Octolift

Install the app from the Shopify App Store. Shopify shows you the permissions Octolift asks for (they are explained on the Data and privacy page) and may ask you to pick a plan; if you skip that, you are on the Free plan, which is enough to see how the app works. You can change plan at any time from Plan and model.

Octolift then opens inside your Shopify admin. On your first install you also receive a short welcome email; reply to it whenever you have a question.

2 Analyze your first product

On the Home page press Analyze product and pick a product. The analysis page opens with:

  • AI visibility score: a number from 0 to 100 with a rating, and the product as the AI catalog shows it (image, price and review rating where available).
  • Score breakdown: every check, the points it earned, and what would earn the rest. Two checks link straight to the place in Shopify where you fix them.
  • How AI assistants see your product: the selling points, features, specs and attributes the AI catalog has extracted from your listing.
  • How shoppers find you in AI: a few questions a shopper might ask, each run as a live search, with your rank and the product that wins.
  • Agentic sales: the sales AI assistants have brought this product, where Shopify provides that report.

A scan usually takes a few seconds. Scoring is included in every plan, so analyze as many products as you like. See How scoring works.

3 Improve with AI

Press Improve with AI on the analysis page. Octolift writes a better description, up to three titles, and suggests category fields (and a category when one is missing or looks wrong). Each suggestion sits next to what you have now, with the points it is expected to earn. Pick the ones you want, edit them if you like, and press Save, or take them all at once with Apply all suggestions, which lists what it will write and asks you to confirm. Nothing is written to your store until you do one of those.

Each generation uses one product improvement from your monthly allowance on the default model. See Improve with AI and Plans, allowance and models.

4 Check where you rank

In How shoppers find you in AI, read where the product ranks for the suggested questions and which product wins instead. Type your own phrase under Try your own search, and press Track on the questions you care about to keep them on the Tracked tab. If you ship to several countries, pick another market in the country dropdown and press Check to rank it there. See AI visibility.

5 Work through your catalogue

The Products page has five views: Needs work (analyzed, weak or critical, nothing applied yet, weakest first), Improved (a change was applied), Analyzed, Not analyzed and All. Search by title, filter by rating, and from any row analyze, rescan, improve with AI or view the changes. When a change you applied raised the score, the row shows the score before and after.

6 Pick a suggestion model (optional)

On Plan and model you can choose which language model writes your suggestions. The default is the cheapest and does the job well. A stronger model uses more of your allowance per product, not more money, and the picker shows how many products each one leaves you this month. Switching is free and never changes an existing score.
