What the AI visibility score measures
More and more shoppers ask an AI assistant what to buy. ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity answer with a handful of products, and they can only choose from products they can find and understand. The AI visibility score puts a number on both for one Shopify product, from 0 to 100.
The first part is reach: whether the product is in Shopify's catalog, the source AI assistants pick Shopify products from. The second part is the listing: whether it tells an assistant clearly what the product is, who it is for and why it is worth recommending. It is the same score Octolift gives inside a store, from the same checks and the same AI model, so a product you grade here scores the same in the app.
How to check if your Shopify product shows up in ChatGPT
- Open the product on your storefront and copy its address, the one with
/products/in it. - Paste it into the grader at the top of this page and press Get my score.
- Read the score and the catalog result. A product that is not in Shopify's catalog cannot be recommended yet, whatever the listing says.
Asking ChatGPT directly tells you less than it seems: its answer changes with how the question is worded, where the shopper is and what they asked before. The grader checks the thing every answer depends on, the product data an assistant reads, and gives you a number you can compare over time.
Why a Shopify product does not show up in AI answers
Usually the product is not in Shopify's catalog yet. Shopify decides which stores and products the catalog takes and reviews that over time. The common causes:
- The product or the store is new.
- The storefront is password protected.
- The product is a draft, has no image or price, or is not published to the online store.
- It is not sold in the shopper's country.
When the product is in the catalog and still is not recommended, the listing is the problem. An assistant favours products whose listings state plainly what they are and give facts it can repeat to the shopper. Vague copy and missing details give it nothing to say, so it picks a competitor.
AI visibility and SEO are not the same
An SEO tool asks whether a page can rank on Google. An AI assistant does not rank pages, it picks products, and it reads them from product data far more than from page design. That is why a store can rank well and still be invisible to ChatGPT, and why an SEO audit of the same page can come back clean while this score is low. Both matter; they measure different things.
What a good AI visibility score is
Start with your best seller. Listings in one store tend to be written the same way, so what holds one product back usually holds back the rest of the catalog too.
What to do after you get your score
The score tells you how far a product is from being recommended; the fixes are specific to each product. Octolift shows every check behind the score, explains where the points are lost, and drafts a better title, description and category fields for you to approve. It also asks real AI assistants the questions your shoppers ask and shows whether they recommend you.

Questions about the AI visibility grader
What is an AI visibility score?
A number from 0 to 100 for one product: whether an AI shopping assistant such as ChatGPT can reach it through Shopify's catalog, and how well its listing answers what the assistant needs to know before it recommends something.
How do I check if my Shopify product shows up in ChatGPT?
Paste the product page URL into the grader above. It asks Shopify's catalog, which AI assistants pick Shopify products from, whether the product is in it, and grades the listing the way an assistant reads it.
Why is my product not recommended by ChatGPT?
Most often it is not in Shopify's catalog yet. When it is in the catalog, the listing usually does not tell the assistant clearly enough what the product is, who it is for or why it is the better pick.
Is an AI visibility score the same as an SEO score?
No. SEO tools rank pages for search engines. An AI assistant picks products from product data, so a page can rank well on Google and still be hard for an assistant to recommend.
Is this the score Octolift gives inside a store?
Yes. It uses the same checks, the same AI model and the same weights Octolift runs in the app, measured on the product's public data.
Can I grade a competitor's product?
Yes. The grader reads only what any visitor to the store can see, so it works on any public Shopify store.
Why do I only get the score?
The score tells you how far the product is from being recommended. Octolift shows every check behind it and drafts the fixes, and nothing changes on your store until you approve them.
Does grading change anything on the store?
No. The grader only reads public data, writes nothing and needs no login.
How often can I grade?
A few products an hour. The same product is graded once a day, so asking again returns the same result until then.
